Conditions for at-Tayammum: Affording Water (Part 4)

Fiqh: 9 ash-Sharh al-Mumti' (Chapter: at-Tayammum)

-If the price is higher than usual then they do not need to buy the water.

Al-‘Uthaymeen explains that this is the opinion of some of the scholars, based on the Aayah, “and you find no water, then perform Tayammum” [5:6]. They stated that paying for water above its price is like water is not available.

Al-Uthaymeen states that if a person is able to buy water, irrespective of the price and will not be harmed by it, then the correct opinion is that he must do so, even if it is expensive - opposite to what the Madhab states. The evidence is in the very same Aayah, “and you find no water, then perform Tayammum” [5:6], as Allaah, the Most High, has made finding water the condition – here the person has found water.
