Tazkiyyah: The Objective & a Warning Against Name-Calling
Question: What should the small student of knowledge do when
he hears that a particular person has been praised but he is actually upon innovation,
such as (someone having praise for him but) giving Fatwaa on the permissibility on building over graves?
Answer: He needs to explain the state of this person and
make clear what the person is upon to the one that is praising him. Having praise or
dispraise (from the scholars) is not the main objective; rather the main
objective is to spread the Sharee’ah. Therefore, if we are able to dispel the
innovation of the innovators without mentioning them, then this is what is more
Beloved to Allaah and not mentioning their name in person, either good or bad. They should
be advised, this is better and preferable[1].

[1] Mention
their traits (the people of innovation and sin) and only mention thier name if
there is a need to do so.
